frayed burber rug

By megrockstar

I just got my stairs carpeted with a nice tight burber. 3 weeks later my dog has ripped up a few areas (dammit) on the stairs( on the edges). Right now the frayed part is hanging down. How can I fix this so that it looks okay but also has some sort of seal?

any ideas?

thanks!

Without seeing it, I'll put in my two cents worth.  I've had this happen so I'm giving you the wisdom of my experience.  Cut the frayed part off so it isn't hanging so far from the top of the looped nap of the surrounding area.  Go to the fabric store or craft store and get the highest powered fabric glue you can find.  I've used two kinds--one called Fabri-Tac made by Beacon Adhesives or Beacon's 3 in 1 advanced craft glue (I think it's better).  Just dab some glue on the "canvas" or backing of the carpet that you see and try to adhere the ends down at that point, neatly and tightly.  When that dries, you may want to get an upholstery needle that is curved and some matching upholstery thread-available at the fabric store, and tie a knot in one end and with all your might (and perhaps some leather gloves or a thimble) push that needle through the carpet backing, looping around the ends and pulling them down really tightly so the loose ends are permanently stitched down to the backing. This should disable the ends from coming loose and causing more raveling.  If you can't possibly get the needle through the carpet backing, try the glue and see if it sticks.  I think the glue and the stitching will work.

Let me know if it works.
